Some drivers using Valley Road might have noticed some changes to the speed at certain parts of the road.
The first change is the speed limit of 60 kilometres per hour when you are first getting onto Valley Road has been extended past the first bend before it returns to the normal 90 km/h.
The second change is the speed limit for the bend by The Berry Barn is now 70 km/h.
Corman Park Reeve Judy Harwood said the changes were necessary to better ensure driver safety.
“It’s something we have looked at for a while and we have had a couple accidents on those corners. One was a fatality, the other was not but still gave us great concern,” said Harwood.
Corman Park and police are working together to ensure the changes go smoothly.
The idea to lower the speed on these bends was first brought up in council.
“It first came up in council as a recommendation. We discussed it with our police department to see if it was something they were in agreement with, which they were,” said Harwood.
Harwood also considers summer to be the best time to change speed limits because there won’t be any extreme road conditions.
She said police will be more lenient in the beginning and give drivers a warning instead of giving them a ticket right away.
