The Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes unit has arrested a suspect in the slaying of Gregory Cope.
The Mounties said Friday that 34-year-old Travis Jean had been arrested Wednesday in Lloydminster and charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of arson with disregard for human life.
Jean was to appear in North Battleford Provincial Court on Friday.
Police said a man had been found dead inside a home in Battleford that was destroyed by fire Feb. 18. Investigators found the body Feb. 27 and, with help from the Saskatchewan Coroner’s Service, identified Cope as the victim.
The initial investigation by the RCMP determined Cope died as a result of a homicide.
