People across the Land of Living Skies will eventually be able to gather around a campfire and put the winter weather behind them.
Saskatchewan Parks opened reservations for seasonal campsites Monday morning and available spots are expected to go quickly.
Sask Parks executive director Robin Campese told the Greg Morgan Morning Show on Monday reservations can be made on the Sask Parks website and there’s queue functionality.
“(People) will want to be refreshing their browser so that (they) can be bumped … into the site depending on where (they) are in the lineup of folks waiting to get on the site,” Campese said. “It’s a good idea (for people) to have thought about where (they) want to camp and have discussions with friends and family.”
Since seasonal spots usually go quickly, Campese said more spots are available this year.
“If (someone) is not successful in securing a seasonal site — we actually don’t have a max stay limit in Saskatchewan parks — so (they) book a site for any duration provided (they) get in there ahead of everybody else and that booking calendar isn’t cluttered up with other reservations,” she said.
Campese confirmed seasonal campsite prices did not increase.
Reservations for nightly camping will start opening on Tuesday.
Sask Parks’ schedule for nightly campsites, which include Camp-Easy, economy, equestrian, non-electric, electric or full-service sites, is as follows:
- Tuesday: Candle Lake, Good Spirit Lake, Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan Landing
- Wednesday: none
- Thursday: Douglas, Echo Valley, Makwa Lake, Narrow Hills, Pike Lake
- April 10: Danielson, Great Blue Heron, Greenwater Lake, Rowan’s Ravine, The Battlefords
- April 11: Buffalo Pound, Bronson Forest, Duck Mountain, Moose Mountain
- April 12: Blackstrap, Crooked Lake, Cypress Hills, Lac La Ronge
According to Campese, Camp-Easy sites are fully equipped campsites that come with a stove, an axe, queen-size beds and some cots.
“All (people) have to do is pack (their) sleeping bag, clothes, food and come out and stay with us,” she added.
Campese said camping season will start on May 18.
