The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) has given a helping hand to the Saskatoon Tribal Council’s Emergency Wellness Centre.
That hand is reaching deep into its pocket for a $100,000 donation.
It is the single-largest donation the wellness centre has received since opening its doors at a new location in early December.
“Homelessness is a community problem and SIGA wants to be part of the solution. Stepping up to help relatives at the EWC is the right thing to do,” SIGA president Zane Hansen said in a news release.
The money will go towards the centre’s nutritional program to help feed the shelter’s clients. According to SIGA, the shelter spends $50,000 each month on food.
“This donation will go a long way to help with operating costs for the EWC,” Tribal Chief Mark Arcand said in a statement.
“It’s organizations like SIGA that help us make a big difference in the community.”
The Emergency Wellness Centre is located in Saskatoon’s Fairhaven community and has beds for 106 individuals.
