It lasted for a couple of weeks, but all good things must come to an end.
That’s what happened to the WHL’s Saskatoon Blades as they had their seven-game winning streak snapped with an 8-1 loss to the Prince Albert Raiders on Sunday at SaskTel Centre.
Oddly enough, the Blades’ last loss came to Prince Albert on Feb. 24 and they started their win streak against the Raiders the following day.
The Raiders — who are clinging to their own playoff hopes — opened the scoring just past the halfway mark of the opening period Sunday when Keaton Sorensen scored from the slot to give P.A. the early 1-0 lead.
The Blades tied it less than a minute later when Brandon Lisowsky scored on an odd-man rush.
But that was the last good sign of Saskatoon’s night.
Prince Albert responded with seven unanswered goals to easily walk away with this one.
Evan Herman gave the Raiders the lead before the end of the first and there was no looking back from there.
Carter Anderson, Hayden Pakkala and Justice Christensen scored in the second period. Sorensen found the back of the net for his second of the night in the thrid period, and Sloan Stanick and Harrison Lodewyk got in on the fun in the third to lay it on the Blades.
Tikhon Chaika was solid in net as his 32-save effort sealed Prince Albert’s victory.
It wasn’t a good day to be a Blades goalie on Sunday as Ethan Chadwick, who was given the start, made only five saves before getting pulled halfway through the game after letting in four goals. Austin Elliott didn’t fare much better, giving up four goals on 16 shots.
Saskatoon will try to reset on the road, when it travels to Swift Current to face the Broncos on Wednesday night — the Blades’ second-last road game of the season.
