Spring is right around the corner, meaning landscaping and renovations are high on many to-do lists.
The HomeStyles Home Show is returning for its 41st event this weekend at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon. The event, which opened Friday morning, is geared towards those looking for design inspiration or working on a new or current home.
Nicole Burgess is CEO of the Saskatoon and Region Home Builders’ Association, the organization behind the show. She said this year’s show floor is packed with more than 325 booths and showcases 165 companies, most of them operating locally in Saskatoon.
“They’re going to be featuring a range of products and services for your home, your cabin and your outdoor living space,” she said.
Organizing the event is a year-round process, Burgess said, adding that long-time builders such as North Ridge Development Corporation, Ehrenburg Homes, and North Prairie Developments will be making a return. Some new companies will also be featured, she added, and some of the larger exhibits were even built right on the site.
One aspect of the show that’s returning in 2023 is the speaker stage, which took a hiatus during the COVID-19 pandemic. The stage will feature local experts sharing information about renovation and design, Burgess said, including sessions on energy efficiency, which she said is a common theme that can be seen throughout the event.
“That’s a very hot topic right now,” she said. “A lot of people are looking to learn how they can update their home to make it more energy efficient.”
Other topics include sessions on custom kitchen renovations, technology, and a discussion on updating homes for seniors.
“As people are getting older, they’re wanting to stay in their own home, but it needs to accommodate their changing needs,” Burgess explained.
Throughout the weekend, Burgess said families are encouraged to stop by and enjoy features such as a built-in maze, and adoptable puppies from Prairie Pooches Rescue.
Sunday will be a family day at the show, Burgess noted, which will feature a balloon artist, face paint, and even a reptile exhibit.
“We really want to encourage people to come out as a family,” she said.
For those wanting to catch the Brier this weekend, Burgess said the event will have a beer garden showing the curling championship on large TVs.
The HomeStyles Show runs until Sunday evening.
