'Considering the circumstances ... this is best-case scenario,' Cole Cusitar said.
An inmate at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre has died.
According to the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety, the 20-year-old man was found unresponsive in a cell Wednesday. Corrections staff called paramedics and performed first aid, the ministry said, but the man was declared dead at about 10 p.m.
The ministry said foul play is not suspected and the death is not related to COVID-19.
Both the Saskatchewan Coroners Service and Saskatoon police are investigating the death, the ministry said, and an internal investigation will also be performed.
