SaskTel announced Wednesday that it would be waiving long-distance and texting fees in order to allow people to contact loved ones in Turkey and Syria.
The Crown corporation made the decision in the wake of a devastating earthquake that has taken the lives of more than 12,000 people in both countries.
The fees will be waived starting Thursday and won’t be collected again until Feb. 28.
According to a SaskTel media release, the company will automatically waive:
- Long-distance charges for SaskTel wireless (postpaid and prepaid), landline, and business calls made from Canada to Syria or Turkey; and
- International text messaging fees for text messages sent from Canada to Syria or Turkey.
