An event meant to be a friendly meet-and-greet with Ward 3 Coun. David Kirton had to be cancelled over safety concerns.
In a social media post Wednesday morning, Kirton said that over the past several days he’s received threatening telephone calls and emails, which have become a “cause for concern.”
Based on those concerns and advice from other sources, Kirton said he made the decision to cancel his “Coffee with the Councillor” event at Confederation Mall in Saskatoon.
“I do not want to be responsible for any security concerns that could arise at the mall,” he wrote.
Kirton said constituents and others who wish to contact him can still do so by email or phone.
When contacted by CKOM, Kirton said he’s reported his concerns to Saskatoon police but declined a request for an interview.
