A teenaged boy has been charged in the shooting death of a child on the George Gordon First Nation.
According to the RCMP, officers from the Punnichy detachment got a call Thursday at around 11:45 p.m., about an injured person at a home on the First Nation.
When officers arrived, they found a boy who had been hurt. Paramedics on the scene pronounced the child dead.
The Mounties said the boy was under the age of 10 and was from the George Gordon First Nation, but they didn’t provide any other details.
Saskatchewan RCMP Major Crimes subsequently charged a male teen with one count of manslaughter with a firearm. He can’t be identified under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
The teen is to appear in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
The George Gordon First Nation is about 110 kilometres north of Regina.
