The provincial and federal governments are investing nearly $20 million in 25 separate infrastructure projects around Saskatchewan.
The $19.7-million investment includes money for the construction of new facilities at the First Nations University of Canada’s Land-Based Learning Centre in Regina (with that investment adding up to $2,484,010), improvements to Estevan’s Leisure Centre ($993,794), a refrigeration upgrade at Kindersley’s West Central Event Centre ($833,175), and more.
Bridge replacement projects will be supported in the RMs of Big Stick, Biggar, and Laurier. The government funding will also cover the decommissioning of landfills in Climax, Ceylon, Harris, Lumsden and Milestone.
The provincial government is chipping in $8,948,700 across the 25 projects, while Ottawa’s share comes to $10,822,885.
The full details of the projects supported by the new funding can be found here.
Don McMorris, Saskatchewan’s minister for government relations, said the money will have a big impact across a number of different sectors.
“These investments will increase Indigenous cultural learning opportunities, provide recreational opportunities, improve our rural transportation system and support our environment,” McMorris said in a statement.
“We will continue to build a stronger Saskatchewan that is home to a strong economy, strong communities and strong families.”
Daniel LeBlanc, federal minister for intergovernmental affairs, echoed McMorris’ comments.
“The investments announced today will create opportunities for Saskatchewanians to build a better future for themselves, their families and their communities,” LeBlanc said in a statement.
