An investigation is underway after a train derailed near Chaplin late Sunday.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) said in a media release that it’s “deploying a team of investigators” after a Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) freight train derailed near the community.
Chaplin is 155 kilometres west of Regina on the Trans-Canada Highway.
The TSB said 47 cars holding 95 containers left the tracks. Canadian Pacific said no dangerous goods were involved.
“The TSB will gather information and assess the occurrence,” the release said.
A worker at a gas station in Chaplin says the train appears to be on its side with railcars bunched up and there was no fire or smoke.
The owner of a local café says she heard a loud noise when the train was derailing, since her shop is located near the tracks.
