Residents of Saskatoon’s Nutana neighbourhood were thrilled to see snow being carted away Wednesday morning.
Gina, who lives on Ninth Street East, was extremely excited to see City of Saskatoon vehicles working on the snow-laden streets just down the road from her home.
“My friend was dropping me off at home because I needed a ride and he was bottoming out his car the other day,” she said.
Gina even had to borrow her mom’s SUV for a few days after Christmas to be able to get out and about following the post-holiday snowfall that blanketed Saskatoon.
Gord Vaxvick also lives on Ninth Street East but he wasn’t as inconvenienced by the snow. Still, he was grateful to see the snow piles being cleared.
Roads that had yet to be cleared in the Nutana neighbourhood were still covered with snow and deep ruts that made driving difficult. Piles of snow in front of homes and along roadways have obscured sightlines for motorists looking to turn or enter intersections safely.
According to the City of Saskatoon’s website, snow piles on priority and local streets are currently being removed, with the Nutana neighbourhood as the focus this week.
The Riversdale, City Park and Caswell Hill neighbourhoods have been earmarked for snow removal next to help improve sight lines, clear sidewalks and give residents access to on-street parking.
