The City of Saskatoon said its crews are making good progress grading main routes in the city, and grading on local streets is expected to begin by the weekend.
According to the city, extra contractors and equipment were brought on to help with the snow clearing efforts after approximately 34 centimetres of snow fell on the city in the days since Christmas. A schedule for clearing will be released in the coming days, the city added.
Snow grading has been completed on the highest-priority routes, including Circle Drive, the city said, and all the transit routes are expected to be completed by this weekend.
“Local snow grading will begin immediately afterward,” the city said in a statement.
Some municipal services, including garbage and recycling collection, have been affected by the weather, the city said. Collections will be rescheduled once those streets are all accessible.
Saskatoon’s transit services continue to operate without major disruption, the city noted.
Residents were reminded not to move snow onto the street when clearing driveways and sidewalks, in accordance with city bylaws.
The city also noted that its Customer Care Centre is receiving a large volume of calls, and directed residents to the city’s website for the latest information on snow clearing.
