The RCMP is trying to determine if there’s a connection between a number of thefts in south-central Saskatchewan.
According to a media release from the Mounties, there has been a “steady increase” in break-ins and thefts in the area since mid-November.
Items stolen during the break-ins include vehicles, guns, tools and electronics.
“Investigation has determined these crimes may be committed by suspects armed with weapons,” the RCMP release said. “Investigators are working to determined if they are connected.”
Officers from the Lumsden, Moose Jaw, Milestone, Southey, Punnichy and White Butte detachments are working with the Regina Police Service’s Auto Theft Unit on the investigation.
Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to call their local RCMP by calling 310-RCMP immediately. The Mounties also reminded people to take precautions to limit opportunities for thieves, including:
- Locking all windows and doors of their residences, businesses and outbuildings when the owners aren’t present;
- Considering installing an alarm system and/or video surveillance and ensuring that it’s always functional;
- Installing outdoor lighting; and
- Locking vehicles and equipment, refraining from leaving valuables, tools or keys in them, and parking them in a garage or well-lit areas while not in use.
