The Saskatoon Blades are on a roll, winning eight games in a row.
The team added another win Friday night, beating the Spokane Chiefs 8-5 in a contest which included 10 goals scored in the final period.
Trevor Wong scored early in the first – something he’s done all season – to open the scoring, and would end up finishing the night with two points. Blades forward Brandon Lisowsky followed, scoring two goals in the first and second periods to give the Blades a 3-0 lead heading into the third.
That’s when the floodgates opened.
Spokane opened the period with two goals from Chase Bertholet and Tommaso De Luca before the Blades responded with two of their own from Blake Gustafson and Aidan De La Gorgendiere.
With a 5-2 lead almost halfway through the final frame, some may have thought that would do it for Spokane, but they battled back and cut the Blades’ lead to one.
Brayden Crampton and Berkly Catton scored to make it 5-4.
Justin Lies closed the door for any comebacks by restoring the two-goal lead, then Lisowsky capped his night with a hat trick – finishing the night with five points – putting the Blades up 7-4.
Bertholet then scored his second of the night for Spokane, but Egor Sidorov sealed the game for Saskatoon by potting an empty-netter.
During the eight-game win streak, the Blades have scored 46 goals including back-to-back games scoring eight.
The Blades travel to Regina on Saturday night to face the Pats at the Brandt Centre in the team’s final game before Christmas. Puck drop is at 7 p.m.
