Living in Saskatchewan, it’s easy to see why having warm socks is so necessary, and yet they’re a clothing item that many across the province don’t have.
For that reason, the Chiropractors’ Association of Saskatchewan has partnered with The Salvation Army to create the Toasty Toes Sock Drive in order to provide socks to those in need.
For the sixth annual drive, the organizations managed to collect 12,325 pairs of socks throughout October and November — easily passing the initial goal of 10,000.
They also raised $2,560 in donations that will go towards other winter necessities, according to a media release.
The socks will be donated to various Salvation Army locations across Saskatchewan.
Local schools, post-secondary institutions and community members across the province all contributed to the drive.
“We would like to thank Saskatchewan residents for their sock donations, and our chiropractic community in Saskatchewan for their continued support of this very worthwhile cause,” Dr. Jennifer Beggs, president of the Chiropractors’ Association of Saskatchewan, said in the release.
“The Salvation Army is humbled and grateful for the continued support the community gives us,” added Al Hoeft, executive director of The Salvation Army at Waterston Centre.
“Their efforts help us continue to give hope to those in need. The effort put forth by the Chiropractors’ Association of Saskatchewan is incredible and their hard work shows the passion they have for their community.”
The Toasty Toes Sock Drive has gathered more than 92,500 pairs of socks over the past six years and has raised more than $7,400.
