Thursday is the final day to register for the 650 CKOM Adopt-A-Family Program.
Adopt-A-Family connects families who need some extra support during the holidays with generous donors — who can be businesses, groups, families or individuals — who provide the family with gifts, food items, grocery gift cards, and more.
Anyone who registers will be contacted by the Salvation Army, CKOM’s charity partner, who will provide details about the family and how to deliver gifts.
The program was first launched in 1988, and collected $5,000 in its first year. Adopt-A-Family has been growing ever since, and in 2021 brought in $92,800 in cash, food and gifts for more than 615 families and 1,550 children.
So far this year, more than 300 families have been matched, but the need continues. Cash donations are also accepted and appreciated.
Lt. Derek Kerr, who works with the Salvation Army, was helped by the Adopt-A-Family Program 13 years ago, and said it’s really a special event every year.
“This program has a special place in our hearts and we’ve seen firsthand how people who donate their time and their gifts and offer generosity to families at Christmas affected us personally,” Kerr said.
