Saskatchewan is letting the world know about its economic sustainability and environmental stewardship.
On Tuesday, the province launched the Sustainable Saskatchewan brand and website, which highlights many of Saskatchewan’s achievements.
“(It’s) a marketing campaign really of how our products are produced in Saskatchewan from a sustainability perspective and how we compare to other areas of the world that produce similar products,” Premier Scott Moe said in making the announcement at Agribition.
Moe said Canadians should focus on the country’s energy and food security and how well those things are produced in Canada. That’s especially true in Saskatchewan.
“People really wanted the government and wanted their industry leadership to be more bold in telling the story about what we’re actually doing in this province, not only what we’re producing and what we’re providing to the world and how we’re producing those product,” he said.
The premier said there will be billboards promoting the brand and, in the future, the campaign will grow to other forms of media including TV and radio.
Moe also noted Ottawa should pay attention to what’s happening in this province.
“The federal government should know all of this,” he said. “We invite the federal government to be as equally proud as the Saskatchewan government of the industries of agriculture, the industries of mining (and) the industries of energy production.”
In a media release, the province pointed out Saskatchewan is the global leader in potash production, and the province’s potash producers emit 50 per cent fewer emissions than their global competitors.
The government noted Saskatchewan producers sequester 12.8 million tonnes of carbon in their land through zero tilling, which the province said is the equivalent of taking 2.78 million cars off the road every year.
As well, the release said Saskatchewan’s Enhanced Oil Recovery program has sequestered enough carbon to make 4.5 million homes energy neutral for an entire year.
