Some areas of southwest Saskatchewan were under freezing rain warnings Monday morning.
Environment Canada issued the warnings for areas around Swift Current, Herbert, Moose Jaw, Pense, Outlook, Watrous and Hanley.
“A disturbance tracking into southwestern Saskatchewan will bring a wintery mix of precipitation, including freezing rain, to the area this morning,” the warning read. “The potential for freezing rain will shift eastward through the day.”
The weather service said highways, roads, walkways and parking lots could become slippery due to the rain, so drivers were warned to be cautious.
According to the Highway Hotline, travel wasn’t recommended on Highway 4 south of Elrose, Highway 42 south of Dinsmore and Highway 342 between Kyle and Beechy because the roads were covered in ice.
Those advisories were removed just after 2:30 p.m.
