The Grey Cup Festival in Regina kicks into high gear Thursday.
Most of the events are happening on the REAL District campus.
The NexGen Energy Street Festival is to begin at 11 a.m. in Confederation Park. There’s no charge to take in the giant outdoor playground, which features the SaskPower Tube Slide, axe-throwing, relay games, a community stage and a large inflatable football game.
The SaskPower Family Fair is set to open at 11 a.m. at the AffinityPlex. The fair is free and includes inflatables, a youth football area, player-led drills, interactive skills competitions and other events.
The Brandt Centre will be the site of the ESports Showcase, which also starts at 11 a.m. The free event will allow pros to show off the world of esports to school-aged kids.
The Digital Zone presented by SaskTel opens at 11 a.m. at the International Trade Centre. There’s no admission for the interactive technology event, which features a virtual field-goal kicking competition, a head-to-head video game challenge, photo opportunities and a virtual reality arcade.
Also at 11 a.m., Gainer’s Heartland is to open at the Ag-Ex Building. The free event is geared toward kids under the age of five and features photo booths, face-painting, hair-braiding, a soft play area, a private nursing area, and stuffies.
At 6 p.m., the CFL Awards reception is to begin at the Conexus Arts Centre, with the show to start at 7 p.m.
Saskatchewan Roughriders returner Mario Alford is up for the league’s award for outstanding special-teams player. Centre Dan Clark is the Roughriders’ nominee for the Jake Gaudaur Veterans Award, which recognizes players who are active in their community and show leadership in their locker room.
Tickets are $200 or $80, depending on the seat’s location.
Team party rooms are to open at 4 p.m., and are to stay open until 1 a.m. Tickets cost $50 for a night, or $104 for a three-day pass to the rooms that are at REAL District.
The Spirit of Edmonton team room is at the Conexus Arts Centre.
The NexGen Energy Drone Show that was scheduled for Thursday at 9 p.m., has been postponed due to high winds and unfavourable weather conditions. There is to be one show Friday at 9 p.m., and shows Saturday at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.
