Charges have been laid in Moose Jaw against five people, including the 32-year-old man around whom an emergency alert was issued Friday night.
According to police in Moose Jaw, they found out there were guns in a home on Fourth Avenue Northwest near Caribou Street West on Friday. Officers got a search warrant and went to the area.
Tactical members from Moose Jaw and Regina police responded but before they arrived someone left the home, fired a handgun at police and ran off. No one was hurt.
Officers created a perimeter around the area and tactical units as well as canine units started to search the area.
Just before 10 p.m., shots were reported near a home on Ross Street West, just a few blocks away. Police arrived and found a person in a backyard.
Crisis negotiators were used and convinced the man to surrender. About 45 minutes later, he was arrested.
An emergency alert was sent out, warning the public about the incident just before 10:30 p.m. The alert was cancelled a short time later.
Jirard Saddleback of Calgary is facing charges of attempted murder, possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of the proceeds of crime, as well as other drug and gun charges. Other charges could be added at a later time.
Saddleback is also wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for being unlawfully at large out of Calgary.
Three other men and one woman were also arrested in this incident; charges are pending for them.
