Saskatchewan is sending firefighters to Prince Edward Island to help with cleanup efforts after tropical storm Fiona pounded the maritime province in late September.
Fifteen wildland firefighters and a liaison officer from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency will be stationed in Charlottetown for two weeks, the provincial government said. They’re to take with them chainsaws and protective equipment to help clear fallen trees that caused damage to structures and in some cases are still blocking roads.
The firefighters were to depart from the Prince Albert Airport on Friday, the government said.
“Following the devastation last month, the SPSA is pleased to support the province of P.E.I. with the cleanup,” Marlo Pritchard, head of the public safety agency, said in a statement. “The people of P.E.I. have been working tirelessly, and we are proud to help as they recover.”
