The provincial government is advertising more than 125 new, full-time positions in health care, as many parts of the province struggle with a shortage of doctors and medical workers.
The new postings come as part of Saskatchewan’s Health Human Resources Action Plan, which aims to add more than 1,000 health care workers to the province. The posted positions, across 49 separate communities, include jobs for registered nurses, psychiatric nurses, LPNs, care aides, radiation technologists, lab assistants, and more.
In a statement, Health Minister Paul Merriman said the action plan will help attract more health professionals to the areas where they are most needed.
“The creation of more permanent, full-time positions will lead to better retention of our health care workforce in these rural and northern areas,” Merriman said.
The government also unveiled some new incentives, aiming to make Saskatchewan an attractive option. A new, one-time incentive of $30,000 to $50,000 is available “to attract new employees to targeted positions in rural and remote areas.”
“The SHA worked directly with its teams on the ground at local health facilities to determine what staffing enhancements would help them the most,” Mike Northcott, the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s chief human resources officer, said in a statement.
The job postings are available for viewing on a provincial government website.
