A Friday night collision between a semi and an SUV left two passengers trapped in a vehicle.
The Saskatoon Fire Department (SFD) received the call about the crash around 10:40 p.m. on Oct. 7. Two fire engines, a rescue unit and the battalion chief were dispatched.
Air bags had been deployed at the scene and two people — the driver and a front passenger — needed help to get out of their vehicle.
Hydraulic tools were used to remove the driver’s side door and the passenger door was pried open by firefighters without tools. Fire crews removed a woman from the passenger side and gave her immediate medical care. Other crews were working to free the driver.
At 10:54 p.m., the door was successfully removed and firefighters began medical care immediately on the driver, a man.
Ambulance teams took over the medical care of both patients and three SFD primary care paramedics rode in the ambulances to the hospital to assist with medical care.
The fire department did not know any further information on the status of the patients, according to a news release.
Fire crews were called back to the site of the accident by Saskatoon police on Saturday morning to help clean up flids that had leaked onto the street.
