A standoff at a Pendygrasse Road apartment complex is over, and charges are pending against the knife-wielding man allegedly responsible.
According to police, a 54-year-old man barricaded himself inside an apartment in the 300 block of Pendygrasse Road at about 12:30 a.m. Friday. Police said the man was armed with a knife, and threatened to use it on others.
The public was asked to avoid the area during the standoff.
After several hours of unsuccessful negotiation, police said officers moved in to make the arrest.
“Members of the Tactical Support Unit ultimately breached the barricaded unit and deployed a less-lethal weapon against the suspect,” police said in a statement. “He was taken into custody a short time later.”
The suspect was taken into custody, police said, before he was taken to hospital for treatment by paramedics with Medavie Health Services West.
Criminal charges are pending, police said.
