A man is in a Saskatoon hospital with a long list of injuries after a piece of ceiling fell on him in the Cory potash mine.
Nutrien confirmed what it termed a “ground fall” happened last Thursday. The employee who was seriously hurt was given care in the mine and then taken to hospital in Saskatoon.
The company said it will be working with the Saskatchewan Mine Inspector to look into what happened.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for a man named Steven Belanger, to benefit his fiancé and nine-month-old baby.
It says he has internal injuries and crushed bones in his hips and legs, and is in the ICU with breathing issues.
In an update Monday, the fundraising page said Belanger is still sedated and had some setbacks, and likely will have a lengthy hospital stay ahead of him.
