The dog days of summer are over, but many people are taking advantage of the fleeting days of unseasonably hot conditions.
Tatiana Fras was one of many people out and about on Tuesday taking the opportunity to soak up some sun with her pets.
“It’s nice to have a little bit of the last taste of summer, that’s for sure,” she said. “The dogs like it too. We have a little doggy pool at home that they like to go in.”
Looking at the forecast might lead to some feelings of deja vu.
Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang said a ridge of high pressure is bringing in lots of hot air.
“It’s a nice time of year with most of the bugs being gone, so you can go outside and enjoy things without being bothered too much,” Lang said. “This is the second year in a row we’re getting these really warm temperatures at this time.”
The warmth might even be enough for the record books, according to the weather office.
“I don’t know how many records will break but we may break a handful here and there,” Lang said.
The heat could be sticking around for a few weeks until cooler daytime temperatures creep in.
“The same ridge is going to be in place, it looks like, for at least seven to 10 days,” Lang said. “But it gets harder and harder as we go further into the fall to get those really warm temperatures just because we’re losing the daylight and the nights themselves are getting longer.
“It gets harder to keep up those temperatures. But you know, still looking at the records, we know that these temperatures are possible even into next week.”
