A 17-year-old boy is facing criminal charges after allegedly threatening to bring a firearm to Rusholme Road in Saskatoon.
According to police, officers were notified about the threat on Tuesday morning, and set up a perimeter while they searched for the suspect. A police dog unit was brought in to help track down the person behind the threat, and officers performed an “extensive search” of the area.
The 2200 block of Rusholme Road, where the boy allegedly threatened to bring a firearm, is home to Mount Royal Collegiate, a local high school. Police noted multiple schools took safety precautions during the search, but did not say if the threat was specifically related to a school.
The teen was located on Avenue J South around 2:30 p.m., and was arrested. Police said he has been charged with uttering threats to cause death, mischief over $5,000, and breaching court-ordered conditions.
As the boy is not an adult, he cannot legally be named by media.
