A sharp-eared Saskatoon police officer helped track down and arrest two people suspected of firing a gunshot early Thursday morning.
According to police, a constable and a police service dog were training on Ottawa Avenue when the officer overheard a gunshot nearby. Two men were spotted fleeing on bicycles, police said, and the constable gave chase on foot while directing other officers to the area.
The responding officers quickly found and arrested the pair, who police said were carrying stolen goods, 28 grams of a substance suspected to be methamphetamine and unidentified pills. The firearm, police said, was found discarded in a nearby yard after “a comprehensive grid search of the area” by officers.
The suspects, both age 30, remain in custody, police said, and criminal charges are pending.
