A fire early Monday morning in Saskatoon claimed the lives of two dogs and caused $200,000 in damage to the house.
According to the Saskatoon Fire Department, a call came in just before 3:30 a.m., about flames at the back of a house in the 200 block of Avenue S South.
Three fire engines, one ladder truck, one rescue unit and the battalion chief responded and had the fire under control just before 4 a.m.
“One occupant was able to evacuate safety,” the fire department said in a release. “Two dogs were located in the structure who did not survive the fire.”
A fire investigator determined the blaze originated on the rear deck, but the cause isn’t known.
