For the third straight day, heat warnings remained in place Friday for areas of southwestern Saskatchewan.
Environment Canada continued the warnings for regions around Leader, Gull Lake, Shaunavon, Maple Creek, Val Marie and Cypress Hills.
A severe thunderstorm warning also was issued for the Shaunavon-Maple Creek area Friday afternoon, with severe thunderstorm watches issued for the Swift Current-Herbert-Cabri region.
The weather service said the mercury was expected to reach 32 C over the next two days, with overnight lows near 16 C.
“Temperatures will begin to moderate below heat criteria by Saturday or Saturday night as the surface ridge tracks off to the southeast,” the advisory said. “However, daytime high temperatures will likely remain above normal for the foreseeable future.”
