Severe weather triggered numerous tornado warnings across northern Saskatchewan on Thursday evening.
Environment Canada said a funnel cloud was spotted around 5:30 p.m. north of Meadow Lake and roughly an hour later the weather agency received a report of a tornado touching down in Witchekan Lake north of Spiritwood.
“We can confirm a tornado,” said meterologist Danielle Desjardins, adding the twister was the 20th this year in the province.
‘We’re going to assess any damage associated with the tornado, but we can’t give it a rating just yet.”
The same storm system also hit the western side of Prince Albert National Park. Sask Power said it continues to work on repairs to damaged poles in Big River, Delaronde Lake, all rurals north of Debden. It estimated power would be restored to affected areas by 10:00 p.m.
Strong winds also toppled trees at Anglin Lake and at Murray Point on Emma Lake while hail the size of loonies fell in the Candle Lake area.
