Moose Jaw wants you to “Get a Life.”
This week, the Saskatchewan city launched the “Get a Life” campaign. Mayor Clive Tolley said the campaign is meant to help grow “Canada’s Most Notorious City.”
“We’re finding local employers need people,” Tolley said.
“Yesterday, Brandt had a job fair where they’re trying to attract 70 people to work at their trailer manufacturing facility in Moose Jaw, and Donald’s Fine Foods is renovating the former beef plant, and they’re going to need up to 100 employees in the next year.”
The name of the campaign is intended to be “cheeky,” the mayor said, but it comes with a serious message.
“We need people to move to Moose Jaw and have a good quality of life,” Tolley stated. “We’re trying to attract people to Moose Jaw, take these jobs, and have a good quality of life.”
Tolley said Moose Jaw offers lots of perks that aren’t found in large centres.
“We actually think that if you move to Moose Jaw, that you do get a life,” he said. “You get a better quality of life.”
One of the biggest perks of living in a smaller city, the mayor said, is that it’s quick and easy to travel.
“It’s five to 15 minutes to anywhere. I always say Moose Jaw is a place where you can decide to go to the 9:00 p.m. show at five to nine and still make it,” Tolley said.
“I go from my office to the hockey rink or go to the golf course in five minutes … We’ve got a great opportunity for a lifestyle from Moose Jaw, so we’ve decided on ‘Get a Life.’”
Tolley said tourism in the city is still going strong, and said Moose Jaw attracts large events because it has similar infrastructure to larger cities.
