The beautiful weather this weekend will have some people thinking about a last-minute camping trip, and there are still sites available around the province.
Robin Campese, executive director of visitor experience for Sask Parks said July tends to be the busiest long weekend in provincial parks, but there are still lots of spots open if you want to camp.
“We’re sitting at about 80 per cent occupancy for the weekend,” she said. “We’re almost sold out for electric (sites). For all three nights, there are a few electric sites available in Cypress Hills, Douglas, Green Water, Pike, Rowing, Sask. Landing and Meadow Lake.
“We also have plenty of tenting sites if there are any tenters interested in coming out this weekend,” she added.
Campese said numbers are down about eight per cent this year, but a busy weekend could bring this year’s attendance figures closer to the numbers seen in 2021, especially with the nice weather helping out.
There will be lots of free activities for people to participate in over the long weekend.
“We have a very special event at Cannington Manner, and you can do all kinds of traditional activities there,” she said.
“We have theme days in most of our provincial parks this weekend. Get your feet wet at Buffalo Pound – there’s water gun fights, fishing programs, magical wonders at Echo Valley and ‘Park is Dark’ at Rowan’s Ravine.”
According to Campese, Cypress Hills will likely be the busiest park this weekend.
Campsites can be booked by reserving a spot online through Sask Parks.
