Just after 4 p.m., the university issued an alert for people to evacuate St. Thomas More College after receiving a threat about a possible explosive device. Soon after, the order was extended to include the Health Sciences building, Murray Library, Place Riel and Memorial Union building.
The University of Saskatchewan confirmed all people inside were safely evacuated.
Police said Tuesday that patrol officers initially searched the area and then were joined by members of the Explosive Disposal Unit and the Canine Unit.
“A suspicious male at the scene was taken into custody and later released with no charges,” the police said in a media release.
“A backpack was also identified as suspicious and was examined by the EDU. It was later determined to contain nothing that would be considered a threat to safety.”
