Officers from multiple RCMP detachments are investigating a string of vehicle thefts involving a suspect who also rammed a police cruiser.
Last Friday, the Wynyard RCMP got a call about a theft of fuel at a business in Wynyard. Officers found the pickup truck, turned on their emergency lights and pulled up behind it, but it backed up and rammed the police vehicle.
The driver didn’t get out of the truck and took off, hitting two other parked vehicles and the police vehicle again. The truck took off eastbound on Highway 16.
After Wynyard RCMP alerted neighbouring detachments about the truck, Yorkton RCMP officers found it several times in that city. They turned out their emergency lights and tried to pull it over numerous times, but the pickup sped off.
Later that night, Yorkton RCMP located the truck abandoned southeast of Dunleath. Investigation subsequently determined the truck had been reported stolen in Broadview on July 6 and its licence plate had been stolen in Springside on July 8.
Later Friday, the Yorkton Mounties got a call that a white SUV had been stolen from a rural property outside of Yorkton. That vehicle was found abandoned in Eston on Sunday.
On Saturday, Kyle RCMP were told a black Ford F-150 pickup had been stolen from a rural property in Tyner.
Police say the latter two thefts may be connected to the incidents in Wynyard.
Anyone who sees a black 2013 Ford F-150 with Saskatchewan licence plate 728 JSD is urged not to approach the vehicle, but to call their local RCMP detachment at 310-RCMP or 911 in an emergency. Calls also can be made to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
