The Saskatoon Police Service has confirmed the death of the seven-year-old boy who was pulled from the South Saskatchewan River on Saturday.
Police say officers were called to the east bank of the river near Victoria Avenue for a call of a missing child.
After officers found some of the boy’s belongings during a search of the riverbank and the surrounding area, the fire department was called to help search the water.
Not long after sending out the boat, the fire department spotted two objects of interest at around 9:20 p.m., using a handheld sonar. At 9:51 p.m., the boy was found and paramedics started CPR.
The boy was taken to hospital, where his death was confirmed.
