Severe thunderstorm warnings and watches have been issued for much of central Saskatchewan, but Environment Canada says they could develop to a point where tornadoes are possible.
“As an approaching low pressure system enters the province from Alberta, scattered thunderstorms are expected to first develop across western sections before moving eastwards as the afternoon progresses,” the weather service said in its advisory Thursday.
“Some of these storms will likely become severe and will include the threat of an isolated tornado or two this afternoon and early this evening.”
The warnings are in effect for Leader, Gull Lake, Melfort, Tisdale, Nipawin, Kindersley, Rosetown, Biggar, Swift Current and the surrounding areas.
The watches are in effect for areas from the Alberta border to the Manitoba boundary.
Saskatoon is among the cities covered by the watches, which stretch as far south as Swift Current.
