The renovation project at the Farmers’ Market Building in Saskatoon is getting a funding boost from the federal government.
On Thursday, the City of Saskatoon announced new funding for the interior renovations of the building at River Landing, to the tune of $750,000. The money is coming from the Canada Community Revitalization Fund administered by Ottawa.
“This exciting renovation project will give residents and visitors a world-class experience when they buy goods and produce from our local producers and artisans,” Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark said in a statement.
The city is currently working with design consultants to complete the planning for the renovation project, which will see the washrooms and mechanical systems upgraded, as well as permanent spaces for tenants to sell their produce.
The renewal project is expected to cost $1.65 million.
In addition to the renovation project, the city is working with Ideas Inc. on a lease agreement that would see the company operate the market six days a week.
