Police in Saskatoon tracked down two suspected armed robbers using a police dog, a cellphone GPS and by simply following a trail of stolen property.
According to police, multiple people armed with knives entered a home on Avenue O South on Tuesday around 9 p.m., and fled after robbing the victims inside.
A police dog was called to track the suspects, and police said the canine led its handler toward Avenue M South while also following a trail of stolen goods allegedly discarded by the robbers as they attempted to make their getaway.
At the same time, officers accessed the GPS location of a stolen cellphone which pointed them in the same direction.
As the police were tracking the suspects, other officers reviewed footage from a nearby security camera. Descriptions of the two suspected robbers were shared with the officers in pursuit, police said, and they were spotted and arrested without incident as they were leaving an apartment building.
An 18-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy have both been charged with robbery and other related offences. According to police, the accused robbers were carrying stolen property when they were arrested, and more stolen items were found inside an apartment unit.
