The Saskatchewan RCMP has released a bit more information about the theft of 200 kilograms of explosives on Sunday.
An RCMP spokesperson said the materials stolen were commercial mining explosives that need specialized equipment to detonate them.
While the spokesperson did not elaborate what kind of equipment that was, she did say it was not taken along with the explosives from the business in a rural area southeast of Regina.
The Mounties said Wednesday they got the report of the theft Monday at about 5 a.m. They say that sometime between 4 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. Sunday, someone broke into the business and took off with the explosives.
The RCMP hasn’t said why there was a delay in reporting the theft to the public.
Both the Saskatoon and Regina police services have been notified of the theft as well. Both police forces say they don’t believe there’s any threat to the public, nor is there any information that any of that material could be used in either city for any reason.
Anyone with information about the missing explosives is asked to call their local police service or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
The RCMP reminded people that if they find the explosives, they shouldn’t touch them. Police should be called immediately so an Explosives Disposal Unit can be sent out.
