The worst of this year’s spring blizzard in Saskatchewan is out of the way, according to Environment Canada, but the snow and wind are expected to stick around in some areas for the time being.
“Things improved a bit overnight, but conditions certainly are still not very good in spots,” meteorologist Dan Fulton said Thursday morning. “We still have some snow and blowing snow in the forecast, but no longer blizzard conditions.”
The current conditions no longer meet the criteria for a blizzard, but the snow and wind aren’t expected to completely stop until Friday. Even so, Environment Canada has lifted all of its warnings for the province.
A brief hiatus from the blustery weather will happen, but it won’t last for long, according to Fulton.
“It’s looking like we will be dealing with more snow on the weekend,” he said. “There’s another little system coming through on Saturday night into Sunday, but it’s not looking as big as this one.”
A few more inches of snow are expected to fall leading up to Friday evening, adding to what has already been a very significant amount.
“I think we got off lucky,” Fulton said. “There is definitely some pretty significant snowfall totals out there.”

As for exact totals as of Thursday morning, Fulton believes around 25 centimetres (or about 10 inches) of snow had fallen in the southeast.
But for the weather office, the strong winds have made it difficult to determine exact totals at this time.
More details on precipitation totals are expected to be released in the near future.
