A new scam making the rounds in Saskatoon is targeting nighttime staff at stores.
The Saskatoon Police Service said Monday it has received multiple calls recently about scammers calling the night staff and saying the store manager has authorized a shipment or payment of some sort which has to be made immediately.
“The scammers may claim to be calling from corporate headquarters and threaten that the store will be closed down if payment isn’t urgently made,” the police said in a media release. “Payment is requested via gift cards or Bitcoin.”
Police urged employees to confirm all such requests with their managers. The release added that payment demands in gift cards or cryptocurrency are most likely a scam.
