O’Shea’s Irish Pub is hoping to serve — and raise — some green this St. Patrick’s Day.
The pub in downtown Saskatoon is hosting a free breakfast Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. to celebrate the day, and to collect donations on behalf of the Ukrainian Humanitarian Crisis Appeal via the Canadian Red Cross.
O’Shea’s owner Daniel Ford Beavis said with this being the first St. Patrick’s Day without COVID-19 restrictions, the pub wanted to have fun and give back.
“The crisis in Ukraine is a really terrible thing going on, so we thought, ‘What can we do to help?’ ” said Beavis.
This isn’t the first time O’Shea’s Irish Pub has done a fundraiser to support a good cause.
“We were going to do one with Pink Wig two St. Patrick’s Day ago,” Beavis said. “When we had to cancel, we ended up giving all the food to charity instead,”
Beavis says although no one who’s a part of O’Shea’s is directly connected to the conflict happening in Ukraine, he understands how deep Ukrainian culture runs in Saskatchewan.
If you can’t find the time to head down to O’Shea’s Irish Pub but still want to donate, Beavis encourages people to donate directly to the Red Cross humanitarian fund.
