A Saskatoon police officer needed a few stitches after being bit by an axe while responding to a call on Monday evening.
Police say it happened when officers were talking to a man who appeared ready to jump from the train bridge at Spadina and 33rd Street.
In a news release, police said the man ignored police commands and threw an axe at the group of officers. One officer was struck in the hip and required stitches.
The man attempted to climb back to the outside of the bridge railing, but was grabbed by the officers and pulled back to the walkway. Police said he spit and punched officers before he was eventually arrested.
The 41-year-old man will appear in court Tuesday to face charges including assault and carrying a weapon.
