Mark McMorris’ career Olympic medal count will remain at three for the time being.
The Regina snowboarder finished well back in the men’s Big Air competition Tuesday at the Beijing Winter Olympics, placing 10th in the 12-man final.
McMorris has three Olympic bronze medals to his name, including in the slopestyle competition at the Beijing Games. He also finished third in slopestyle in 2014 in Sochi and in 2018 in Pyeongchang.
McMorris was in eighth place after posting a score of 80.25 points in the first run of the Big Air event Tuesday, but the 2021 world champion couldn’t land either of his second or third jumps. He finished with a total of 113.75 points on his two best jumps.
China’s Su Yiming won the gold with a total of 182.50 points. Mons Roisland of Norway earned the silver with 171.75 points, with Max Parrot of Bromont, Que., claiming the bronze with 170.25 points.
Parrot, who won gold in slopestyle earlier in the Games, was in position to win silver until Roisland scored 82.50 points on his final jump to slip into second place.
Darcy Sharpe of Comox, B.C., finished 12th.
