Colton Flasch’s rink out of the Nutana Curling Club will be flashing the green provincial jackets at the Brier this year.
Flasch defeated Dunstone’s rink in the final at the SaskTel Tankard 6-4 in a tight contest.
Trailing 2-1 going into the 5th end, Flasch struck for three to take a 4-2 lead into the break. The third rock needed a measurement as it showed to be just inside the rings for a crucial insurance point in the game.
After Dunstone managed to knot the game at 4-4, Flasch took the lead back in the 9th end with just a single.
However, Flasch’s rink didn’t leave Dunstone much of a chance with the last rock in the 10th end.
A stolen point would seal the deal for the Nutana Curling Club squad.
The Saskatoon-born skip has plenty of experience on the big stage after being a part of the 2019 Brier Champions under Kevin Koe’s rink.
That same team went on to the World Championships held in Lethbridge where Flasch picked up a Silver medal.
Oddly enough, the 2022 Tim Hortons Brier is being played in the same place Flasch took home silver on the world stage.
Flasch’s rink includes Catlin Schneider at third, Kevin Marsh at second and Dan Marsh throwing lead stones.
All four players possess experience playing at the National level and will compete at their first Brier together as one team.
Although it wasn’t the dream end for Dunstone, the 18-team field will allow for three Wild Card teams to play at this year’s Brier.
With Dunstone holding the 6th spot in the Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS), there is a chance there could be two Saskatchewan-based rinks competing in the tournament.
