It appears Saskatchewan has already seen the worst stretches the winter season has to offer.
That’s according to Environment Canada senior climatologist David Phillips, who appeared on the Brent Loucks Show on Thursday.
“I think the good news is those cold episodes are getting shorter and less intense,” Phillips said. “February started off cold, but on Sunday, temperatures are going to go from nine degrees below normal to seven degrees above normal and then 10 degrees.”
While it seems there’s a light at the end of the tunnel, Phillips warns there’s still a long way to go before spring weather arrives.
“Winter is not going to disappear. Spring is a little reluctant to arrive, but it’s going to be that three steps forward and two steps back,” Phillips said.
The biggest key is to stay patient throughout the month, according to the senior climatologist.
“Astronomically, the days are getting longer — three minutes and 15 seconds longer a day than the previous day. The sun’s higher in the sky and February’s the shortest month,” Phillips said.
