A 26-year-old Weyburn man is facing eight weapons-related charges after a number of guns — including two created on a 3D printer — were found in his home.
In a media release Friday, the RCMP said its Crime Reduction Team executed a search warrant Nov. 21 at a house in Weyburn. After further investigation, the Mounties charged the suspect on Tuesday.
He faces charges that include manufacturing and possessing restricted and prohibited weapons. He’s to make his first court appearance March 8.
“It’s illegal to manufacture a firearm unless you have a proper firearms business licence to do so. This includes manufacture by traditional methods, or other means,” Staff Sgt. Scott Lambie of the Saskatchewan RCMP Crime Reduction Team said in the release.
“Illegal firearms can present risk to community safety and the Saskatchewan RCMP is committed to removing them from the street. Illegally manufactured guns are of extra concern because they have no serial number and thus can’t be traced if used in a crime.”
Officers from the Weyburn Police Service, Canada Border Services Agency and National Weapons Enforcement Support Team assisted the Mounties in the investigation.
